Take Courage from the Holy Spirit’s Joy

Everyone who works should take comfort and inspiration from today’s readings. It’s Trinity Sunday and the first reading introduces us to the spirit of Wisdom at work—God’s creative spark giving us life. It’s that wisdom that filled Jesus and inspired him to create his church. It’s that wisdom he bequeathed to his disciples so they could keep his church alive through the centuries. Each manifestation of the spirit turned an impossible task into a job well done because each project was powered by joy.

“I was his delight day by day,” Wisdom says, “playing before him all the while…and I found delight in the human race.”

“The love of God has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit,” writes Paul.

“He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you,” says Jesus.

Delight, love and glory are our divine inheritance, and when we put them to work on any job we face—no matter how challenging—we are doing God’s will.
