We must be Spend the Gospel to be Saved

In today’s first reading Stephen sees Jesus. In today’s second reading John hears Jesus. In today’s gospel we are given the chance to be one with him.

The chance.

Jesus prays to his Father, “I will make it known that the love with which you loved me may be in them and I in them.”

May be.

For what Stephen saw, he was stoned to death. What John heard Jesus say is “I will give to each according to his deeds.” I wonder what those who stoned Stephen got? Were they saved by Stephen’s prayer that God forgive them? In their defense, they were ignorant, as those who crucified Jesus were ignorant.

With the gift of the gospel we have no such defense. Jesus invests his truth in us and challenges us to spend it wisely. That’s what will make our spirit one with The Father and The Son.
