“WHEN THE GAME STANDS TALL”
This is a great movie to watch with the family. A good message of what is really important in developing young men and the qualities that a coach should have.
[In 2003, high-school football coach Bob Ladouceur (Jim Caviezel) and his De La Salle Spartans have just completed an incredible 151 consecutive victories and 12-straight state championships. While the team’s seniors receive offers from colleges all over the country, the advancing juniors look forward to making their mark. However, beloved “Coach Lad” has a brush with calamity, while the Spartans face their most-challenging, most-unpredictable season yet.]
“Greater”
Another great movie for the family. True Story. Definitely has a Christian message. My kids really liked it and we had some ongoing discussions regarding the good messages that it had.
[Brandon Burlsworth is perhaps the greatest walk-on in the history of college football. Brandon dreamed of playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks, but was told he wasn’t good enough to play Division I ball. Undeterred, Brandon took a risk and walked on in 1994. Written off by fellow teammates and coaches, Brandon displayed dogged determination in the face of staggering odds. The awkward kid who once was an embarrassment to his teammates and an annoyance to his coaches, ended up becoming the most respected player in the history of the program, changing the lives of all he touched.]
“Mom’s Night Out”
Good for the whole family. Mom’s and Dad’s will definitely appreciate this movie. Christian message. Comedy. A little slow in the beginning but once it gets going it really moves right up until the end.
[All Allyson and her friends want is a peaceful, grown-up evening of dinner and conversation . . . a long-needed moms’ night out. But in order to enjoy high heels, adult conversation and food not served in a paper bag, they need their husbands to watch the kids for three hours—what could go wrong? MOMS’ NIGHT OUT is an endearing true-to-life family comedy that celebrates the beautiful mess called parenting.]
“The Resurrection of Gavin Stone”
This is a great movie about letting go of our ego and letting the Holy Spirit guide us through character development. Gavin Stone is a former child actor whom success and Hollywood spoiled rotten. He grows up to be a struggling adult actor who tends to get into trouble with the authorities. Finally he’s hauled into court and sentenced to community service for damaging private property. He end up working off his time at a small church (not catholic, but no matter). He starts out doing janitorial work but finds out the church is staging the story of Christ. What better way for an actor to work off service time than doing what he loves? And what better part than the lead: Jesus himself? Only problem is, Gavin is more agnostic than Christian and doesn’t know his way around the Bible. He worms his way into getting the part, but learns much more than his lines in the process. Great movie for young families exploring the relevance of Christianity in today’s world.
